1. Open the Menu. Go to Initial Setup, Input Settings, Output select. Set Output select to "fixed". If it is set to variable, the audio menus are greyed out. 2. Go to Audio Settings. I have a Sharp Aquos LC-60LE6300U. When I hook up the optical audio output from my TV to my new LG 300w sound bar system, I receive no sound from the sound bar. The optical out on your TV isn't supposed to act as a passthrough. It's to get 5.1 from over-the-air HD programming. If you do get sound out of that thing, it'll only be in stereo, so using RCA cables won't change anything. If you want to use the HTiB to get 5.1, you'll need to plug optical (or HDMI) to the HTiB directly from the players.

For some reason even though the Sharp does have an optical out jack it does not send out an audio signal when the set is set to either of the two HDMI inputs. In fact the only time the optical jack lights up is when the input to is set to one of the analogue inputs.
