Sharp tvs will not output ANY audio from a hdmi input device, either analog (headphone jack) or digital (optical port). Those ports will only work if inputting analog (red/white) audio, or from the tvs internal tuner, this model tv also does not have an audio return channel, so options are quite limited.

To enable the digital audio output, you need to select "Terminal Setting"- there will be a choice for PCM or bitstream, you will want to set it to Bitstream. Oddly enough, this tv is shown that it has NO audio outputs on it. So in order to have audio for connected devices you need to run the audio cables directly from each device to your audio receiver. If you have rf coax for an antenna then you will need another device like a recorder with built in digital tuner then output to the receiver.

It only works with composite, component, and S-video inputs, where the cable have separate audio and video. HDMI cables contain both audio and video. Sorry for any inconveniences.
