Never put a shorting plug on the output of anything. They go on the un used inputs of a preamp or integrated amp. For example, if you have 4 inputs on your integrated amp and you only have a CD player and a tuner hooked up to it, you would short out the other two un used inputs so they don't pick up any noise. If you have a soldering iron it's easy. Just jumper pin #2 to pin #3. If you can't solder. Take an old XLR cable/with connector. Cut the cable so that it's 2 or 3 inches long.
