Anyways, what I did might sound odd, but worked. I reinstalled Windows XP from scratch with SP3 enabled. I tried straight trying to install the Dell Utility, then the Intel Chipset S/W and then the Audio Drivers from Sigmatel. No go; same errors as before.

SigmaTel Audio Driver v5.10.5067.0 works for Sony Vaio VGN-AR41L when downgrading to Windows XP, but earphones now produces a weird bug (sound comes off speakers AND earphones even when plugged in). But anyway that’s the only driver I find working so thank’s a lot !
