I have done some research and I keep finding that Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 and 8.1 do not allow audio to be output on both digital and analog output at the same time. I find this so awkward and clunky. Note that even when I plugged in an external USB sound card, windows would still only allow one default audio output device.

The last word from Microsoft was to wait for windows 7 and buy that - HOWEVER as of yet, windows 7 does not support simultaneous audio either. As for me, after 2 years of waiting for a Vista fix from Microsoft, I am still using windows XP for all my media needs, as XP is the only OS than can do all the things I need.

If you are using the 1/8" stereo jack in a sound card or the built-in motherboard audio output, stereo y-cables are available.
