Answer (1 of 8): I think this has been mostly answered but indeed XM radio uses an variant of AAC HE (High Efficiency) codec. I’ve done some playing around with the HE codec and the bitrate is probably somewhere between 24–48 kbps depending if the AAC variant is based on v1 or v2 of the HE codec....
