To enable a Slingbox 500 to placeshift HD content with an SOC-capable set-top box, make sure that you have component cables connected to and from the Slingbox 500. Then go to Advanced Settings and select Disable HDMI on placeshifting. Or, you can disconnect the HDMI cable from your set-top box to your TV and use component cables instead.

Just listed, Ebay Item 232519916863 -- a Slingbox 500 with an HDMI to Component Video & Audio Adapter that allows protected HDMI to feed the Slingbox as HD via the Component inputs instead.
