Sony's Blu-Ray DVD player uses HDMI pass thru. Which means you have to connect the player's HDMI output DIRECTLY TO THE RECEIVER NOT TO THE TV! The receiver's hdmi output then connects to the TV. The coax cable connects normally from the player to the receiver. Unfortunately for me, my old Pioneer receiver does not have any HDMI connections.
