I used speaker wire to power my Cibie driving lights on my Opel GT back in the late 70's. The insulation melted and the wire touched the body. I blew the fuse on the lights. But they were fine for my hi-fi. It's got to get pretty warm to melt the insulation enough to cause a short. A heater vent should not be an issue at all.

Beware of too large of speaker wire. Lots of vintage gear and speakers weren't designed to accept thick wire. As a general rule, I don't use anything smaller than 16ga. And that would be fine. Larger is fine too, as long as it fits, but it's not necessary. Another thing to be aware of is CCA (copper clad aluminum).

Most houses in my area use 14 gauge wire throughout most of the electrical system and would most likely be used anyplace a stereo would be. Most likely you would have more than just an amp/receiver sharing that same circuit. Most people don't run speaker wire very far in their house.

Surround speaker runs are about 30'. Fronts can be run along the floor around 12' and 8' for the center. So... rear speaker total 80' , surround 60' , main 24' , and center 8' for 172' of quad cable or 344' of two wire. I will figure the exact lengths soon, but these are close. I see quad cable comes in a reel of 250' so I figure I'll go with that.

The towers would be well served with a pair of 10 to 15 ft speaker wire, and the center shouldn't need much more than 5 ft Preferably I'd like all 3 speakers to have the same wires I can use raw ends, spades, or banana plugs no real preference other than maybe whatever is easiest to connect! Thanks a million!

Balanced vs. Unbalanced Audio: What's The Difference?

    https://www.boxcast.com/blog/balanced-vs.-unbalanced-audio-whats-the-difference
An audio cable carrying an unbalanced signal uses two wires: a signal and a ground. The signal wire, as the name suggests, carries the audio signal to where it needs to go. The ground wire acts as a reference point for the signal. However, the ground wire itself also acts like an antenna, picking up unwanted noise along the way.
