The Stargard systems are bascially a big scam for autodealers to make money. He worked at a dealership, and they got them for under $15 and would charge up to $700 for installation which is why he left the buisness. Here is how simple it is to remove (remember, I am not a skilled mechanic WHATSOEVER).

When I bought my 99' Tacoma new from the dealer, they installed "StarGard", which is that little device that disables your starter until you insert the little key, and then you can start your truck. It's failing to the point where I have to sit in my truck for about 5-10 minutes with the keys in before it will start.

Apr 7, 2010. #10. My car was given the Stargard treatment as part of the deal when I bought it. To be honest, I can't tell if it makes any difference or not. The car looks OK when it's washed, but it certainly doesn't gleam or shed water as per the G3 Glasscoat YouTube clip referenced in Redcar's reply.
