Any of the early model Big CS speakers from the 99's down should sound good with the SX-780 and the classic look of the CS speakers with the lattice grilles can't be beat and they are Pioneer. The HPM series Pioneer speakers would be a good match too.

The Pioneer SX-780 was manufactured from 1978 to around 1980. It was initially built in Japan but later production switched to South Korea as evidenced by the varying tags on the back of the unit. It produces 45 watts per channel into 8 ohms with no more than 0.05% total harmonic distortion. The list price in 1978 was $325.00.

My re-capped Pioneer SX-780 came back from the shop yesterday, and I set it up in the basement with Wharfedale Denton 80th's. I first tuned in some classical music on FM, and then listened to some Charles Mingus on vinyl (via a Marc Morin resto-modded Acoustic Research AR-TX turntable with a nice Grado 8MR cart).

I also had a Pioneer SX-780 and I too found it a little "dry". From memory the 7070 puts out 63 WPC RMS and sounds great. They're also fairly common as compared to the Sansui 8 (great receiver) so will be less $$$. Good luck.
