I had a C1 for awhile and thought it was ok. It's a good piece for the money, no doubt, (I got mine for around $500 US), but I wouldn't expect it to make everything sound better. I never tried it on the mix buss. The pres are decent, clean, and have plenty of gain. The compressor is kind of boring, but works well for controlling dynamics.

The C1 is the top of the range compressor from TL audio, and is referenced also differently is the but under the HHB name also. The VP1 preamp has been reviewed if I remember well in the British magazine called Sound on Sound. You can find the review archived online.
