Just like to note that this also fixed the issue on Ubuntu 15.04, using the JACK audio server with the pulseaudio-jack-module. Of course I don't think JACK had anything to do with the issue, I believe it was just not playing nice with PulseAudio until installing the tuxguitar-jsa package.

When I open Tux Guitar it still says the "Java Sound API cannot blah, blah", but I installed timidity, opened tux guitar, went to tools, went to settings, went to sound, switched midi ports, used the timidity -iA -Os command, restarted tuxguitar, then I learned "Heart Shaped Box" on guitar. Tuxguitar seems to be working again now. It didn't work until I removed the config folder in my home directory. Also this package include the jack audio plugin, and tuxguitar tries to load it on startup, but since I don't use jack (and its not a dependence) it fails and aborts. Deleting the plugin files worked tho.

In general, you should use “Real Time Sequencer” because it’s faster, but it needs Java Sound plugin to be enabled, which means it requires Sun Java to be installed.
