I recently installed Ubuntu 8.10. I am having problems with my sound. I've tried different ways to configure my sound, but I have no luck. You can look at my configuration in the pics I attached. Alsamixer doesn't show any playback devices. My motherboard has an HDA-Intel integrated sound card.

Yes. Audio is working correctly in the guest OS where the device is set to: Unknown Volume Control 1 (Sun Audio Mixer) I want to add one more bit of information. I was having the same problem after upgrading Ubuntu from 8.10 to 9.04, and again from 9.04 to 9.10. I think it's a PulseAudio error, not Express Scribe. First time round a reinstallation of the software fixed it, second time round going to Options>Playback and changing the Sound Device from Default to the specific hardware channel you want to use sorted it out.
