I had a very similar problem: Upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04, and sound disappeared. pavucontrol only showed HDMI sound under outputs, not my on-board Intel HDA sound. Hello guys, maybe this is the wrong forum, but I wanted to ask if there are drivers for Intel® Smart Sound Technology for Linux - I am using Ubuntu 19.10 with Inspiron 7590 and from what I've read, the microphone is now controlled by Intel® Smart Sound Technology and does not work in Linux. On windows it is working fine.
