It's also true that some types of music work best with one or the other, so the same engineer may use tube or solid‑state preamps for different jobs. With the Twin‑finity 710, Universal Audio have attempted to satisfy both camps by creating a preamplifier that has both tube and solid‑state signal paths, and a means to blend them as required.

The 710 was brilliant on kick, snare and vocals, giving me a wide palette of tonal options to play with — all in short order. The 610 with a superb round and one side "spongy" and some elastic magical sources (Bass, Lead, Elec Guit! I first had the UA twinfinity 710, but sent it back for a Solo 610, which works very well. However i realised i also like the product of the 710, as it is a very good pre amp, so I decided i wanted, so i re purchased it. iI find that UA products are well made and perform very well. J. Having already reviewed the 710 preamp (Tape Op #70), I won’t retread that water but instead focus on the new features. The addition of some simple compression parameters on all four preamps is a very nice feature. It’s a very simple “in” switch with a selector for fast or slow mode. The fixed ratio is 4:1 with a set threshold of 10 dBu.

Like all our other preamp designs, the 710 features dual gain-stage controls (Gain/Level) which can radically vary the amount of coloration and distortion by allowing you to crank up the input gain like a guitar amp. The VU meter features a unique "Drive" mode allowing you to see how hard you are driving the input stage. Customer Reviews S. López
