Worthful as a 2nd amp. Weakness: slightly lack of bass & punchy, bass not deep enough, poor quality of the connector/plug, need to turn >9'o clock in order to reveal the sound. I had bought the 2nd hand Audiolab 8000A at RM 1200 (~USD 340) in Malaysia about 2 months ago.

My 8000A has an nasty fault on the "direct" switch that brings raw power (a lot of it) direct to the speakers, luckily until now it did not happen at high levels (which I now avoid), so I got hold of an Hitachi HCA 7500 and I want to use this as Pre-Amp. Thanks for any comments.

Then I did the non logical thing in terms of upgrade as one would normally do. I switched the 8000S to pre - power mode and used the 8000S only as a power amplifier. The 8000A became the pre-amp as well as power amp. With the 8000A I drive the upper frequencies and with the 8000S I drive the lower frequencies.
