If restarting your receiver didn’t resolve your sound issues, try these tips: Tune to another channel to see if the volume issue is limited to just this channel or all channels. If it’s just a single channel, return to the channel and see if the sound has returned. It may be a problem with the station provider and not U-verse.

I have a Samsung HW-C560S / XAA audio receiver. When I hook up my uverse box to my hdmi 1 port to my receiver I get video but no audio. It seems like the audio signal is not being coded correctly. I figure this because when i reboot the uverse and when it comes back on the audio and video work together for a second and then the audio goes away.

I have just started get a similar problem with my U-Verse. I was always using stereo. So, I don't know about your surround sound issue. The problem I am having is that the audio quality is terrible. If I skip the Xbox One and go right into the TV with HDMI, it is fine. But, though the HDMI on the Xbox One the audio is choppy.

Apparently they have the same sound problems with Technics receivers which worked fine for Direct TV and event worked with the optical cable. However the U-Verse receivers I was told by several AT&T techs have problems with the HDMI and Optical. Sollution was to use component. This did not solve the sound issue which still fades in and out.

Unhappy U-verse I've had AT&T U-verse service since 12/08, and I have an issue with audio dropouts on HD channels. I have the set-top box connected to my A/V receiver via optical digital cable. On HD channels with 5.1 audio, I get sporadic dropouts every five minutes or so. I called AT&T and was told it's a firmware issue to be resolved later.

In Surround Sound it sucks. But, before the tournament final it worked great. Watching a blu ray my surround sound still sounds great, and I have switched hdmi inputs, and even tried an optical cable. Same problem persists. Now all surround sound channels are effected, not just 1002 thru 1100. AT&T swapped set top boxes.
