Velodyne I'm a Polk guy and it's hard to say this, but go with the Velodyne. Even though the amp is 100 watts less, the box itself is larger, and outweighs the 505 by 15lbs. It's a monster. Plus I think the Velo has a rubber surround, whereas the Polk has a foam surround. I wouldn't consider the 404 with your awesome discounts unless a friend wants one.

Velodyne kinda was an ID company by the time they went out of business. I believe they were only selling from their website. Unfortunately, they were still selling at full list price. A DD18+ equals a Rythmik F18 above a certain point, but the Rythmik beats it down low. The Velodyne cost about 3 times as much. No competition.

The Polk has much more lower bass than the velodyne, but mid bass was nonexistent. I’m guessing the Polk has a sweet spot in the 40-60hz range, and the velodyne was closer to 50-90hz. This made the Polk sound much more subwoofer-y than the velodyne, which I loved at first. But as I listened to it more, it became apparent how sloppy it was.
