Hi Brad. Looks like you have selected a VB-Audio Virtual Audio Cable as your A1 Output device. It is uncommon. It is preferable to use the speakers (connected to your High Definition Audio Device). According to the System settings image this device (A2 Output) is being used in Shared mode which is also uncommon when WDM is selected.

With IO-APIC enabled the sound was choppy, if disabled everything works. And if it was enabled the number of the used cores doesn't matter. Even with a highend Core i-7 (Sandy Bridge, 4 cores, 8 threads) i had interruptions in the sound. For audio to work flawlessly, disable the IO-APIC, set the cores to 1. With XP-Guests this counts:
