Let's suppose that, when you try to join two AVI files, VirtualDub gives you this error: [bold] 'the video streams have different sampling rates (29.97003 vs. 29.97000)' [/bold]. The error lies is in the fact that the audio of those AVIs, was compressed MP3 VBR instead of MP3 CBR. To correct this error you have to: 1) Load CD1.AVI wth VirtualDub
Audio filter reference - VirtualDub Documentation
https://documentation.help/VirtualDub/audio-filters.html
The transition band is ~1.4KHz at 44KHz sampling rate, and as a result, very sharp downsampling, such as 44KHz to 8KHz, may result in some aliasing. This sounds a bit like a halo. You can reduce the aliasing by applying a low pass filter with a cutoff ~700Hz lower than half the source or half the target sampling rate, whichever is lower.

Frame rates in AVI are not stored as floating-point or fixed-point, but in rational form as the ratio of two 32-bit unsigned numbers. This means that the sample rates of two streams can differ by up to the 10th significant digit, and more importantly, two streams can have different values in the header that correspond to the exact same frame rate.
Audio out of sync after VirtualDub - digitalFAQ Forum

Your audio sampling rate should be 48KHz, not 44Hz. You can change that in VirtualDub by using the "Audio" menu and "full processing mode" for audio only. With the Audio menu set up that way, you can click on "Conversion./." and set audio to 48KHz at 16-bits. That might not solve the problem entirely, which is a big bug with Qtime and DV captures.
