Problem: VLC used to send video files's audio as Dolby Digital and DTS to the receiver (i.e. VLC used to work great), but it not longer does. I can no longer enjoy them in 5.1 formats. Well as the title says I am using VLC to play MKV files. I know some of the files have 5.1 embedded in them and I can't seem to get the 5.1 to work properly. Only if your audio format is dts/dolby digital 5.1, the 5.1 channel could activated in VLC. If the original file is of only stereo type, the 5.1 option will not get highlighted in the above said menu. The whole setup worked fine when I played two samples for Dolby Digital and DTS. The first in a .vob file with A52 audio (aka AC3), 5.1 channels (3F2R/LFE), the second again in a .vob file with DTS audio, same 5.1 channels.
