What is LPCM - Linear Pulse Code Modulated Audio
https://www.appgeeker.com/audio/what-is-lpcm.html
LPCM is a lossless audio coding that delivers CD quality sound, so it occupies huge disc space. LPCM is used to transmit uncompressed digital audio information via HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface). Note: The principle for LPCM and PCM are the same except in sample rate and quantization precision.
Wrong channel mapping with BD Multichannel LPCM (#3732 ...
https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/-/issues/3732
Wrong channel mapping with BD Multichannel LPCM. VLC plays LPCM multichannel audio from Blu-ray discs incorrectly. With 5.1 audio front left and right channels are swapped with surround left and right (fronts are playing from back and surrounds from front). Tested with VLC 1.0.5 and VLC 1.1.0-rc2-20100602-0203 under Win32.
Multichannel LPCM audio playback - Hydrogenaudio
https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=95283.0
VLC does, however, accept an LPCM stream if it's simply given the mimetype of "audio/wav", whereas Foobar doesn't like it when you do that and refuses to play ball. Both Foobar and my phone (Desire S) were perfectly happy for the LPCM stream to have a mimetype of "audio/L16", but seeking didn't work (as is to be expected when transcoding).

Audio output methods over HDMI are lacking some key functionality including: Ability to send audio data (DTS-MA, Dolby True-HD, etc) as-is (passthrough) over HDMI. Ability to send up to 7.1 LPCM audio over HDMI. Right now VLC sends 2 channel audio over HDMI unless --spdif is specified and then it sends 5.1 but quality is limited (AC3 limits).

LPCM not getting decoded - The VideoLAN Forums
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=52696
When I try playing a Blu-ray with LPCM audio (track 1) VLC does NOT show any audio packets being decoded (the video pointers are incrementing) (using tools/Codec). The audio tracks 2-5 work just fine (these are stereo soundtracks) albeit in non-English languages and I see the audio pointer increasing with time.
Raw - VideoLAN Wiki
https://wiki.videolan.org/Raw
Raw. This is an audio codec. The name to use at the command line is raw. This codec is from the araw module. VLC's raw codec decodes raw audio data in the PCM format. Pulse-code modulation or PCM is the simplest way of storing audio data. At regular time intervals the audio is sampled, and the amplitude is stored.
