Make sure Digital Audio (S/PDIF) is set as Default Device and open its properties. In the Supported Formats tab, select all the Encoded formats and all the Sample Rates that your receiver supports. Since this is my first post, first I want to say thank you to all contributors to VLC it is an amazing program! I have not been able to update since I believe v2.0.8 without losing S/PDIF passthru that will pass DD, DTS streams unaltered so that external decoding devices such as receivers work; confirmed by DD DTS visual indicators as well as the obvious audio quality loss.
