04-10-2018 04:36 PM. A little testing answered my own question. It appears that adding a 'sound' device provides remote playback via the VMware Remote Console. Since I'm going for a local console for ESXi w/ GPU passthrough, my best bet is probably just to pass through the HDMI audio device on my Radeon.
