when the battery is disconneted, the radio is on SAFE mode, to unlock that you need to press SCAN and MODE together till you see 1000, and then enter you radio code. If you enter the radio code incorrect more that once the radio is locked and you word "SAFE" keeps blinking instead of showing you 1000 when you press mode and scan.
