Im using a WDTV for several months connecting to my TV using a composite cable. This week I changed my TV and wanted to use a HDMI cable. The video works perfect, but I get no audio from the TV. I get NO audio for all kinds of files (mp3,…). I tried the 4 HDMI ports on the TV and none of them work. (note: the HDMI ports on the TV work fine with other devices). I …

Have you checked the Audio Settings on your WDTV ? Setup > Audio/Video Output > Audio Output > Stereo *if you have your wdtv connected to your TV via HDMI* of course, the other Audio settings as well if you are using a AV Receiver. Have you tried another HDMI Input on your TV (if available) ? Have you tried a different HDMI cable ?
No sound on new WDTV Live Plus with HDMI cable - WD TV ...

If you set the output to “Digital” it means your output device (in this case, your TV) needs to decode the sound, which normally they won’t do., Set it to “stereo” (only use “digital” if you are routing the sound to a receiver that can decode things like DTS and AC3 audio). The rest goes to the analog output. What’s more vexing is the so-called digital audio only goes through the optical cable, if the WDTV Live audio setting is set to “digital.” That means no sound to the TV via the regular analog outputs! Pretty poor combination of choices, if you ask me. george_ground October 15, 2015, 3:09am #4

Check your TV’s audio settings. Check your HDMI cable. WDTV Live has old firmware. Try upgrading to the latest (.11) via internet or try downloading from the web and upgrade using USB stick. If you have the latest and still have issues, then try using the same HDMI cable with a different TV and see if its an issue with your TV audio settings.

Dec 2005 The WDTV doesn't have the ability to down mix DTS to stereo (RCA outputs). If you plug the digital audio port into a receiver with DTS decoding you'll get audio. The new WDTV Live (aka WDTV2) has DTS down mixing to stereo. Quote 20th Oct 2009 14:28 #3 mh2360 Member Aug 2001 UK
