May 1, 2006. #1. Hi, I need new (glossy black finish ) Hifi-stereo speakers which also should double as (but not so important) home cinema speakers. Current speakers: Canton Ergo. Can't make up my mind between Wharfedale Opus 1, Evo 30 and Monitor Audio GS20. I listen any kind of music from classic (a lot) to pop, jazz, rock etc...

The Wharfedale's aren't as sensitive but they have a good reputation. The Monitor Audio's also have a good rep and they are cheaper. Tough choice. I have never heard the Wharfedale's, but have read good things about them. I thought about picking up a pair a while back for a small PC system.

The Monitor Audio Silver series is a step up from the Wharfedale Diamond series. While I don't have experience with the Diamond 11's, I do with the Diamond 200 series and the MA Silvers. The MA Silvers are the better sounding speaker.

I began by comparing the Diamond speakers to my reference Monitor Audio Bronze 50s. The Bronze 50s look smaller and not quite as well finished as the Diamond 12.1 speakers and, frankly, that’s how they sound too. ... You do not have to Bi-wire or Bi-Amp these speakers if you are running 100 watts or better. You need to be sure to break these in. Wharfedale suggests 30 hrs break in time to provide the correct sound, if new. They sounded great out of the box. I have broken them in and replaced my Klipsch KLF-10.5`s with these.
