Tested VirtualBox 5.2.32 on Windows 7 host and Windows XP/7 guests. Audio quality is good. There is no distortion/skipping/stutter. However, delay is built up while playing sound. Audio is in sync at start but drifts gradually. There is a 2 second delay after 2 hours of playing. It is noticeable when start, pause or resume playing.

Added the RealTek AC97 audio driver from their website for windows 7 64-bit, paying attention to where it downloaded to. Go to device manager > Audio > Driver, manually change the driver, point it to the folder and tell it to include subfolders. should install fine except for the windows warning - ignore it, Realtek is legitimate.

Actually, I can't entirely verify that it works with Windows 7 32-bit final release, but I do have a VirtualBox VM running the Windows 7 release candidate 32-bit and Windows Update was able to find a suitable driver there, for Intel 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller provided by Microsoft. The listed hardware IDs are the same as you posted.

I am running a Mac Pro w/ OSX 10.6, Virtualbox 3.0.10. Just loaded Windows 7 and the system does not detect any sound devices. I tried the two options in virtualbox for Audio Controller (Soundblaster and ICH AC97), and neither one picks up a device to install in Windows. Your help is much appreciated.
