Windows Media Player 12 won't play music CDs or even recognise a CD in the drive I think this is a problem since I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 but can't be sure. Basically if I put a music CD into my laptop drive, Windows Media player 12 not only doesn't automatically play it but when I open Windows Media no CD is recognised in the drive.

WMP 12 will no longer play any CD's. They will not auto start when inserted into the CD-DVD drive nor will they start by manually selecting the tracks. I know the CD-DVD drive works because I have downloaded VLC Media Player and every CD's I have installed plays through it. It is WMP 12 that is not recognizing a CD.
