When you have it in 2.0 or 4.1 mode, you're probably just hearing duplicated stereo, I'd bet a dollar that if you pull the cables on all the speaks except the centre channel, you'll get music, effects, etc. through there and not just voices. The center channel is what I love most about 5.1. The mixer can put all the dialog in the center, leaving the LR and LsRs for SFX and backgrounds. Everything just opens up. Its like when you've been congested for a while and your sinuses finally clear. Everything has more separation and clarity. Theres no "snap" of the image, or at least much less.
