The situations you guys have is very different to mine. I'm using an external USB DAC, which is showing bit perfect playback at all sample rates up to 192khz. This is using XBMC as part of the Crystalbuntu distro for the ATV1. I have also tried running XBMC off a Macbook pro and a Mac Mini running Win7, all with similar results.
