I have the latest XBMCbuntu (Frodo) on a Acer Revo 3610 and it runs like a charm! Using audio over HDMI (works right away) and using also a Harmony remote (configured as a mce remote). Can't say for SPDIF audio.

It does not support multichannle PCM. As the audio controller is AC'97 audio codec, your HDMI audio is limited to stereo PCM, DD/DTS even though it's trasmitted over HDMI. To get surround sounds, you have to pass through DD or DTS. "Configure" button is disabled (the picture below is my mb). It's normal.
