And the only way of making XBMC run like it should on Ubuntu was to kill PulseAudio, this is ok if you are only using the computer as a HTPC but will quickly take away the fun of having XBMC just as a media player along with the rest of the desktop, as without PulseAudio most of the other applications won´t work properly.

Judging from xbmc-standalone script, xbmc uses pulseaudio. So you probably would have to find out the point in time where pulseaudio is ready with its initialization/grabbing of devices. I #'ed out the "/usr/bin/start-pulseaudio-x11 &"entry in the .xinitrc and added "/usr/bin/start-pulseaudio-x11" (without the &) at the start of the /usr/bin/xbmc shell script that the exec line of the .xinitrc uses to launch xbmc and it loads just as fast as the suggested approach but minus the defunct pulseaudio process after xbmc starts.

sound - How can I cleanly remove PulseAudio in Ubuntu …
https://askubuntu.com/questions/489609/how-can-i-cleanly-remove-pulseaudio-in-ubuntu-14-04
You can't remove Pulseaudio in Ubuntu 14.04 without breaking some dependencies. The sound indicator and the sound options panel, even the control center itself, are dependent on Pulseaudio. Pulseaudio is just a userspace daemon. But you can't simple kill Pulseaudio since it will be respawned by the init system.
