I turn off the 360 , disconnect the transfer cable and secure the HDD in the drive bay on the right hand side of the unit. When I boot up - no profiles etc. are seen - if I go to Storage - the HDD does not appear. I have powered down - removed the drive - powered up and waited. Powered down, replaced the HDD and powered up.. same thing..

Go to control panel, sound and audio, hardware, USB devices, and disable it. The issue stems from the computer thinking that the xbox controller is an audio device, and giving it priority when it is plugged in.
