The xbox will play every ORIGINAL xbox game but not a single 360 game, it will play dvd's and cd's as well. I asked if they had tried to replace the optical drive knowing abuot the board and key but they said no. So my son and I were the first ones to open the xbox 360, it looked like it too, as it was very dirty inside.

I've tried using multiple game discs, both classic Xbox and 360, without avail. The disc drive was originally stuck, but I was able to clean out the rubber band and disc gears, and now it opens and shuts just fine. The Xbox also reads audio CDs and DVD movies perfectly, and plays both without any issues. I have also run all updates for my system.

I went straight to Microsoft Xbox website. Their solution worked for us when our Xbox would not play discs. Go to Settings > Memory. Highlight any storage device and press Y. Do not select A. Select Clear System Cache. Perform Maintenance, click Yes. Next try your game to see if it works. When you play your games, data will be restored. Hope, it will work!

I just got my Second Xbox. It looks like it has the Phillips DVD drive installed in it, And it will read Audio CDs, But not DVDs or Xbox game discs.
