Try selecting the Amarok global shortcuts config "Settings>Configure Global Shortcuts" and see how you go. Select a function such as Play/Pause and tap the play/pause blue key. As you run through the configuration sequence you should see something like "XF86AudioPlay" assigned to the blue Play/Pause button, etc.

* Switched from KDE/GNOME to fluxbox. So big apps like amarok, banshee were out. * Exaile was becoming too heavy and slow. * mpd and its various clients were either lacking certain features or were too esoteric for my usage. * It was fun. Anyway, it is right now at 0.2v and a little rough at the edges. But I guess it should be usable.

I too had a .Xmodmap listing XF86AudioPlay, XF86AudioStop, etc. the diference is that for me removing the .Xmodmap and kglobalshortcutsrc and logging out/in again didn't work. Nothing changed at all, the mute, raise volume and lower volumes keys work for, however the play/pause,stop,next,prev don't work for amarok.
/dev/loki: Mapping unsupported keys with xmodmap

In this example, we're going to bind the keycode 160 to the keysym F13, 174 to F14 and 176 to F15 . Use your favorite text editor ( vim, emacs, kate, nano, whatever) and put the corresponding lines in a file named .Xmodmap (note the dot and the capital X) under your home directory, like this: keycode 160 = F13 keycode 174 = F14 keycode 176 = F15.
