Not getting dolby 5.1 out of my xfinity x1 dvr box ...

Usually basic soundbars won't convert audio because it takes large amounts of processing power, the set top box will not convert audio either it's only going to output the actual 5.1 content instead of outputting it as stereo. (Most audio is stereo but content with 5.1 has both stereo and 5.1 and the STB will output whatever selection you chose). 1
Audio Output from Xfinity TV - Home Theater Forum

The Xfinity X1 box will definitely sound much different when set to output DD 5.1 instead of stereo, so that could be your issue. I have the same service, and will switch between those two settings occasionally. Sometimes a sporting event will have too much audio in the surround channels, which I find distracting. Lost my old Xfinity box to lightning yesterday and went to the Xfinity store to swap boxes. Got one of the new XG1v4 TV Boxs. When I connect the new box to my TV, it "auto detects" that the TV will only pass stereo audio and not Dolby 5.1.
