First make sure you've got the latest drivers installed from Asus. After that from the Xonar control panel there is an up or down triangle that you can click which will open up the control panel even more and from there you can find a drop down and switch to FP_Headphones. This will turn off the back-panel audio out and swap you to the front.

Most of the high end sound cards (Asus & Creative X-Fi's) dont even have ports for the Front Panel. The higher end Xonar D2X totally omits a FP connector. Although the "lower end" DX has FP connectors, it doesnt have auto-jack sensing. From a ease of use perspective, its as bad as not having a FP connector . Bold.
