HDMI audio is extremely finicky and seems to usually need a reboot. Make the Connection: 1. Connect the HDMI cable to the computer and TV. If the TV has a "DVI/HDMI" port do not use it. I have a friend who owns a HP business laptop with a SoundMAX sound card, but also an ATI graphics card. We are both running the Realtek ATI HDMI 2.39 drivers, I have the latest drivers from Dell for the IDT sound card on my Studio XPS 16 (1640). Sorry to answer my own question so quickly, but it ended up being an old driver for the realtek audio device. I figured I would leave this up for people that run into the same issue. For the Layman. Click window & type device manager & open that. Expand the sound devices & open the realtek hd audio.
