Just thought I'd post my findings on how to encode Xvid's and AVI's with 5.1 surround sound as I've seen a lot of people asking how to do it on the web. Basically you'll need to rip your DVD's to your PC as you usually would to the with the original .vob files using anything from AnyDVD to DVDdecrypter etc.

What you have to Do is Extract the Dolby 5.1 audio from the AVI file and then you encode the AVI Video to a DVD Compliant Mpeg-2 Video file and then you use a Good DVD authoring program to author the Mpeg-2 Video file and the Dolby 5.1 audio file to DVD....

I converted an Xvid with AC3 5.1 Dolby Digital audio using Handbrake's AC3 Passthru audio option and it played fine on the Roku and sounded great. I am working on converting it directly from the Video_TS folder, although I can't see why this wouldn't work as well.
