It's Class A switchable like the CA-800 and when playing in Class A its as detailed as anything I had heard out there. I can tell the difference. If it's at a good price, you will be rewarded with a great sound with good speakers. It has highs and Bass to spare. You may want to post in the Yamaha section, a few have the CA-800.

Montreal. Can't speak about the 2010 but I have had a couple of CA-1010 and a CA-800, as well as many CR-X00, CR-X20 and CR-X40 models. In my experience Yamaha's sound did change over these generations, becoming more modern, detailed and open. The older units are lovely, smooth and warm sounding.

Yamaha CA-800 stereo integrated amplifier offers, at a surprisingly agreeable features. Like the more expensive Yamaha CA-1000, the CA-800 has been created with emphasis on its primary function, that is to amplify the stereo signals from different program source components with the least possible distortion and without any other form of undesirable coloration.
Yamaha CA-800 Stereo Integrated Amplifier Manual - HiFi Engine

I consider the CA-800 as entry level Hi-fi, no disrespect. It is a very good amp. The CA-1000 slightly better and the CA-1010 and 2010 better again. I don't consider many of the vintage amps as hifi eg, NAD3020, 3140, 3150, Marantz 1030, 1040, 1050 etc... While some of these amps sound nice and represent great value, the CA-800 is superior.
