Your cable box might be set to downmix everything to two channel PCM. If you are taking optical or digital coax out from your TV, that's also a likely problem as the TV would likely downmix Dolby Digital to two channel PCM. If this is your issue, you will want to connect your audio from your cable box to your receiver directly.
