I found myself having a slightly different problem with ZSNES under Ubuntu 8.04: sound is present but glitches, it is scratchy. After reading a few posts on this forum and elsewhere, I found that setting ZSNES to FULL screen instead of in WINDOWED mode fixes the problem for me.
