here's what i did to get zsnes (zsnes 1.40) with sound: sudo apt-get install zsnes (installed zsnes) zsnes (to run the emulator) pressed "z" to continue. (only shows for first time users) in zsnes, click config and select sound Make sure Enable sound is selected. Select enable stereo (if your sound card supports it) Thats all it took here.

I do not have ZSNES. As long as sound with antiX standard alsa is otherwise ok. Maybe it would help if a complete list of what has been tried is posted, including which 32 bit ... I tried helping him troubleshoot that but everything that I suggested did not work. Now that Windows 7 is EOL, I decided to use the Free Upgrade Tool from Microsoft to update my laptop to Windows 10. Much to my surprise, after it was installed, I tried running ZSNES and it ran no problems, even after updating to the latest 1909 update after that.

If this is your case, there is nothing you can do at the moment. ZSNES uses auto-initialization mode for sound which requires SB2.0+. Your SB IRQ conflicts with another device. For the answer to the question, sound emulation is not perfect in zsnes. In particular, Earthworm Jim 2 has some unusual sound properties, and is only emulated property in bsnes at the moment. Though, unless you have a badass computer setup, bsnes will be pretty choppy. Ah ok. Thanks for clarification.

export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=alsa. if you can't get zsnes to work you should try bearoso's fantastic gtk port of snes9x. sound isn't quite as nice on some games and it's not nearly as fast, but it has such a nice/clean gui (by far the best i've seen on any emulator) and has a wide range of config options as well as netplay.
