The Zu Audio Essence builds the sound from the bottom up. So this speaker follows a very natural contour of the human voice because it has no crossover or filters on the full-range driver. Review Component Retail: $3,495/pr factory-direct in the US. I was in no particular rush to write a follow-up on the Zu Essence. I bought them six months ago on Srajan’s assurance that the past shortcomings of the Druid had been addressed. As I mentioned in my first review, the Essence is a 1.5 system with a single cone/whizzer driver mounted high in the cabinet and a ribbon tweeter placed directly underneath. They are a bit more directional than many modern speakers. Standing up or moving off axis definitely changes the tonal balance. However, there is a fairly large sweet spot.

However, the Essence had more sparkle on the top end and went lower on the bottom. From what I hear, the new Zu Soul is similar to the Druid in presentation but has the deeper bass of the Essence. Build quality of the ZU's were good as is value for $. I think Zu makes a decent speaker but they may be a bit over-hyped at the moment.
