The buzz and interest on Zu is quite something. Our editor has fallen hard for these unique speakers, having worked his way up the line to the flagship Definition Pros. I wondered if the smaller and less expensive Tone possessed similar magic as its …

zu tone - Positive Feedback

The Tone is a dynamic, full range, crossover-less design in a sealed enclosure. It utilizes Zu's proprietary 10.3-inch full-range driver and tweeter, with a high-pass filter at 12kHz to achieve a bandwidth of 50-60Hz (it varies depending upon the room) to 25kHz.

The main driver is Zu's own full range 10.3" Zu260FR/G2 that has a phenomenal 40Hz to12kHz bandwidth (50-60 Hz bass in this sealed enclosure and how the driver has been modified from the Druid and Definition models). Zu Audio does not provide review samples for the reviewer to request. Get in line with everyone else and wait. Well if that was not bad enough we have two speaker drivers that are playing the same frequencies over a large area both in positive polarity.

To me, the most important characteristic of the Zu sound is its fullness. Not too bright, not too warm, not too detailed, but full and alive with little fatigue. My Def4s occupy the long wall of my living room that is 22x15x16, and the living room is one end of a 45x22x16 volume. They do not get lost. leemaze 300 posts 03-06-2019 8:57am
